camshaft bearings
is there any grease that needs to be packed into/around the bearings before re-installing them that i should know about?

You don't say whether these are new bearings or you are just reinstalling the old ones after their being out; however, here is a suggestion:
Lubriplate is an assembly lubricant that I have used in building engines. Basically a white grease-looking product designed to protect (lubricate) new bearing surfaces until oil pressure is built up.
It won't run off like oil will, especially if it will be some time before the motor is initially started.
