I have just disassembled my engine for a top end rebuild. The engine overheated and temporarily seized up while riding. I just moved to a new area and did not change the carbs or timing and that may have done it in. The motor was tired anyway, so this was coming.
OK, so my question is.. The big end of the rod, is it ok to have slight side-to-side play(black arrows) on these cranks, there is no up-and-down play (red arrows) at least by hand.
I can take a video tomorrow if that will help. I do not have a dial indicator to measure, but if slight play is ok and it is in my interest to obtain one, I will pick one up and get some readings.
BTW its a 66 CB77

A few degrees of side-play is typical. If it temporarily seized, are the scuff-marks on the sides of the lower piston skirts? Maybe running a bit lean. I have had the good fortune of never seizing a CB or CL 250 or 305 motor. If you do a re-bore for larger pistons, be sure to send the pistons along with the cylinder to the machine shop along with recommended clearance specs.
