How to replace shifter shaft...is there post on this?
Does the nut have regular threads? I've bent down the locking tabs and pounded the nut with a screwdriver and a hammer. Hasn't moved any. Might have to start looking to borrow someone's special socket. Again, thanks for your help !

I got everything off, cleaned oil filter, clutch plates, ect. Put the shifter shaft in (no problem) and started putting the side cover back on. I kept trying, tapping here and there, pushing on the exhaust pipe thinking it was in the way. Just couldn't get the cover to go all the way down. Got to looking at the old shaft and compared it to the new....yep, it's about a 1/4" longer. My model # is CA77E-1021938. Was there a change in there somewhere or did I just get the wrong shaft? There's always a catch! Does that mean that the early clutch cover was deeper than the late style?
