rebuild

Post by sadams » Thu Sep 18, 2014 1:44 pm

New owner of a barn find 305 Dream that last ran in 1980. After a carb rebuild, points and plugs it made it's first trip, only to have the left piston wrist pin seize on the connecting rod. Any thoughts on that? While I,'m in there replacing the piston and cam chain and roller what else should I check or replace?Cam bearings?Oil pump? Fair mechanical skills, new to Hondas.

Thanks

Try and find out why the pin seized or it will do it again.....

A valuable lesson learned there, if you know something hasn't run in over 30 years strip, examine and rebuild before running it, next time it may be something after the clutch. Starting an old engine is okay that will give an idea on points to look for in the strip down.

i just dropped the engine from my 64 dream 305 so i can work on it at a slower pace during the winter.
my plans is to rebuild it and use some techline coatings everywhere i can
can anyone recommend a good book repair manual and some book
that can give me the specs and some tips when i start to put it back togather again?

Click on the Literature link to your left and you'll find good manuals at reasonable prices.

I use a tool made from some fittings an a High Tensile M6 bolt.

You could make up something similar with a large socket and some washers.

The rocker shafts are threaded to take a special Honda tool but mine works pretty well.
