Oil leak from front acorn nuts

Post by garncarz » Tue May 26, 2015 7:06 am

My 66 CA77 recently started profusely leaking oil from the front acorn nuts. I have them torques to 22lbft and am afraid for snapping the studs if I go further. What is the correct washer (copper/steel) configuration? Thanks.

Check to see if the nuts are bottoming out on the studs.

The Acorn nuts use copper sealing washers. Either the washers have compressed too much or the bolts have stretched.....

New washers and/or new studs may be required.

Is there a better option? Bonded EPDM sealing washer?
