Cam chain noise.

I've posted a topic on this before but as usual things change and new circumstances happen.

I replaced the entire transmission gears and shafts on my CA72 with Loud Mouses help. I put in a new cam chain and a member here hooked me up with a new tensioner rubber and I set it according to Bill Silvers instructions.

I fired up the Dream for the first time since the transmission rebuild tonight and hear a loud clacking during idle that doesn't sound like valves, not as quick and tappy. The sound goes away with throttle and I'm fairly sure it's the chain slapping. It's been sitting for about six months, is there any reason to think the new cam chain might've settled and stretched out after replacing the transmission?

Have you tried adjusting the chain with teh tensioner?

Yes, G-Man.

I rotated the engine and watched for the point when the chain moved closest to the head, then locked the tensioner in there.

Is there a more effective way to do this?

I'll post some video tonight when I'm off work so friends can hear it. It's been a really long time since I've heard it run and I forget that the EMGO dunstalls have next to nothing for baffles. Every engine sound is amplified 10x comparatively to my main ride which sounds like a sewing machine. Makes you hear ghosts in the gears!

Obvious have you checked the valve clearances (tappets)

A little history on the bike like how many miles it's done any engine work been carried out ?

Try the screw driver trick, take a long screw driver put the handle end to your ear then put the other end to were you think the sound maybe coming from on the engine that's with the engine running, don't laugh it do's work.

Difficult to tell but it does sound a little bit like valve clearances.

I will double check the valve clearances, I did them about six months ago but the engine has been split for new transmission, pistons, Cam chain, et all since they were set.
