Engine serial number clarification

Post by jkjoller » Fri Apr 17, 2020 12:36 pm

Hello all-
Two serial number questions:
I purchased a 62 Dream CA77 305. When I did, the guy I bought it from also gave me an extra 305 engine he did not want. The serial number on this engine is puzzling me. It's C77E- A103xx. What does the "A" represent or mean?

Also on my bike the engine number is "CA77E-XXXXXX" and the extra engine is "C77E".. Whats the difference between "CA77E" and "C77E"?

Thanks.

The "A" in both numbers indicates a machine built for the USA. On 1960 bikes the "A" was added at the beginning of the number part and later it became part of the model designation.

Pretty much everywhere else just had C77 as the designator.
