She wanted to, but I talked her out of it. It had the typical spider webbing under the paint, but was still in decent shape. I'd try to find an area that isn't faded, under that dealer sticker perhaps, and have it scanned.

OK, thanks Davo. I've just had an email from the VJMC UK Honda marque specialist and he tells me that he has an identical early C72 in the same color. Hopefully I can go and take a look at it.

I'm tempted to simply reassemble this bike without repainting as the finish is surprisingly good. My man tells me that this is a candy paint over a white basecoat. I'll get it scanned and see how close we can get.

This may not make much sense, but in the US there were 150's that we're painted "passionate pink" in an effort to make them more apealing to women. It is a fushia, darker red color. They only did it in 1960. As I recall there was a metalflake blue as well. I have a 1960 advertisement that shows them. Troyce Walls in Florida had some paint mixed up from an original part.

I've never heard that they ever painted it on a 350 or 305, but you never know....

Paul

Thanks for that. I'm told that it's a candy color, applied over a white basecoat. There are traces of the basecoat showing through where the frame number has been exposed.

Forgive my ignorance. Is Troyce Walls a person or a company. I would be interested to get in touch.

Breaker on the side: isn't TW the ex-NASA geezer who owns/owned the chrome CB77?

And, G, that reg mark is worth a fair whack, I'd reckon!

Steve

Thanks. The number hasn't been re-used so I might be lucky. When are you next in UK to fettle your CB250?

Sammy Miller's museum is worth a look if you haven't been.

I've a-been a-fettlin' all afternoon today. Bloody thing! I'm in the UK for April. I have carb problems so I'm pissed off with having to keep pulling off the left carb, trying to get the fuel level set. Not been able to get the proper floats, so I've had to compromise and use those from a K1 (from DSS). I'll get there, but getting the level right with the round/cylindrical floats instead of the OE 'D'-shaped/flat bottomed type is proving to be very much trial and error (and I hate stinking of bloody petrol!).

Thanks for the nod; I'll do a lookup for the museum whilst I'm here.

I forgot to pack my little Ixus, but I'll take some 'brave' images with my phone, later this week. I have sh1tloads to do, but I'm making myself feel better by fitting some of my newly-acquired odds&sods in order that I at least feel like I've achieved a step or two forward!
