HELP! two honda dreams (barn find)
HELP! two honda dreams (barn find)I have recently acquired 2 honda dreams. One is from 1963, the other from 1965. I found them in a barn and ...somehow... they let me have them for $100. But lets not rant and rave too much at the deal, because I have a purpose for this post. Im 17 years old and originally wanted the bikes as a project to get me started learning how to work on engines. Im not realizing that this may be too big a project, being it is my first.
The bikes are beautiful, after cleaning them up I found that there is very little rust. They have clean titles and even the original manuals. They had been sitting in the barn for 40 years, but (to my knowledge) the gas was all drained out and they were stored correctly. Because they were in a barn mice chewed the wiring. All of the parts are there, the parts that aren't on the bike I have in a bin. Both of these beautiful bikes could be completely restored without too much work. My main goal is to sell them and make a decent profit. But since I know very little, my question to you is how much are these motorcycles worth?? As with anything else they are worth what someone will give you for them. I have run across a bunch of folks who think they are worth lots of money regardless of condition. Usually a reasonable rideable one that has most parts can be had for $1000 to $2000. You see an occasional one priced at $3500 to $5000 if it's in exceptional condition. I have bought a couple that were basically complete, running and needed lots of clean-up and a few parts for $300 - $500.
Do they run - I would absolutely not pay big money for anything that does not run.
You are missing stock mufflers on one the other mufflers look marginal. These are impossible to find unless you want to spend $1200 for reproductions. You are missing the carb covers another very hard to find part. Spokes and rims rust free? - another expensive part. Cut rear fender on one - Tank emblems missing I suspect $2000 is a little high - but you never know - That's just my opinion.
I have a BUNCH of parts that came with them. I havent dug through them all to see if the tank emblems are there. But the carb covers are all included along with every other part missing on the bikes.
They do not run. But if they were taken apart and cleaned by someone who knew what they were doing, they would be well running bikes. The only thing thats really not included would be batteries. In general Dreams are not high dollar bikes but you do have one of the early ones. Unfortunately that's the one that has been cut on.
Would I say that if you do have the parts and titles that asking 2K OBO is a unreasonably high number? No, but unless you are lucky you aren't likely going to get that much. I paid $1100 for my 63 running and complete. (about 3 years ago) Still, you did well. If it was me I would sell the 63 to pocket a few bucks and have the money to get the other running. With a title I would say maybe $5-$600 simply because it's the older style. (then again I'm biased towards them) Get the other running, cleaned up and put together and you should be able to get $1300-$1600 for it.
