c71 gas tank on ca77??

Post by hotrodhendrix » Tue Jun 04, 2013 12:55 pm

Im looking at altering my ca77 to look similar to a C71 and the gas tank is a big part of that. Anyone know if the tank will cary over without any modification to fit or will it need some work?

It will need modification. The C71 tank has four bottom bolt mounts and the CA77 has a horseshoe type mount in the front. And I think the petcock is on the other side.

If you want the look, find a C72 tank, although if your bike is later than 63 you'll have some issues with the way the seat fits as seats are different too.

If you have a line on a C71 tank I could sure use one!

Yes, was the high bidder the last couple of times it came up, just too pricey for me.

Thanks for watching! Paul

Gotcha I dont have any found as of yet. The seat really isnt much of an issue as it will be a custom single very similar to the c71 seat but a bit more like honda rendition of the c70. I did notice the CA77 earlier model has a closer shape to the C71 tank than mine which is actually the later or CA78 tank.

Well I ended up purchasing the c72 tank on ebay for 235 shipped.. Was a bit pricey but I think the price is granted for being a unused NOS piece of something that seems to be hard to find. Once all the parts I need for the build are together I will start the build thread.

Thanks,
~James

Well got it in and got lucky. It fits perfect. Uses the same mounting points. The only change between the two is the nipples are towards the front but still clear the frame just fine. 0 modification needed. The tank was new old stock so its in perfect shape besides a small ding on the side.

If I cant find the side covers I will just delete the attachement points for them and paint the tank silver on the sides. Would have to mount the emblems with epoxy of some sort or weld on small mounting points for them.
