I thought I had one of these but I find the gas hose tube is on the left not the right like you have there. .............lm

Gman, I know using different fasteners make an engineer cringe.
When you purchase a petcock rebuild kit they come with metric, non JIS fasteners. If you want to use them you have to tap the holes. I went with SAE stainless screws, so they will probably last for many,many years.

As long as they fit properly I don't have a problem... :-)
I don't like re-tapping with the same size but a different thread pitch - it will never be as strong.
And, I hate to see this......

I did similar things when I was 13 or 14 but education is a very powerful tool which should be applied liberally ..... :-)

One thing I have learned from experience is to never try to re-use 50 year old corroded stripped screws to secure a petcock to a fuel tank.
