Update. Cut off ~.25" of the offending stud, retorqued all. Got the two front corners torqued to 13 ftlb and the remainder to the specified 15 ftlb.
Thanks again Ed!

wow, I'm just putting my engine back together and am having exactly the same issue....front outer studs are longer, by maybe a 1/8 to 1/4 inch.....I never had thought much about it till I read this..I was thinking I'd just put another washer on if the acorn nut was going to bottom out....or I figured the stud had backed out a bit, and maybe I should double nut it and see if it will go in any farther....will it hurt to try and do that?
Also, my acorn nuts all look the same...one of the manuals I have says there are 2 different colours of nuts...Do I need to worry about that? Thanks

Actually the 4 middle rods are longer than the corner 4. Are your front corner rods the 2 thinest? In 1967 HONDA used cap nuts at the corners and regular nuts at the 4 middle rods and the 2 at the front bottom. .............lm

So here's a pic....the front outer studs certainly are a lot longer. All 8 studs had acorn nuts on when I took it apart, and yes it looks like the front 2 outer studs are skinnier. I only had 4 copper washers on the inside studs, and 4 steel washers on the outside studs....I thought I'd order 4 more copper washers, because I thought they were all supposed to be copper, but they are N.A. from Honda, and in my parts book at some point they were changer to 4 sealing washers...which they had in stock, but it doesn't say where the 4 sealing washers go....help?

They are out to much for sure. I'd say they are not bottomed at the uppercase. Copper (zinc plated) always go on the corners. I'd say until ya get those 2 studs threaded into the case you will have oil leak problems. I have NOS/OEM seal washers here. ..........lm

o.k. thanks Ed....I got the sealing washers (looks like steel) from honda. I'll have to re-use the copper ones I guess.....
so just to confirm...the copper ones go on the corners, ( I suppose they seal the oil in) and the steel ones on the middle 4 studs. Why does Honda call the ones I got today (steel) sealing washers?
