Brian did you find the number on the motor? Or on the frame of the bike? The number on my frame is located (while sitting on the bike) on the left side of the bike down below the battery cover towards the bottom of the frame. It is stamped into the frame. The engine number is stamped into the topside of the case. Mine is a 1963.

You are missing the steering damper knob. Big old black knob that you tighten or loosen to do the same to the steering.

Looks like yours has an original style Nitto tire on the front. While you likely will choose to not run it, save it.

That's exactly like the one my dad had back in the 60's. Red on red.

Thanks Kellie, they like to hide the frame number don't they? But heres what I got

Engine # CA77E 1026xxx
Frame # CA78 1026xxx

I will say the last three digits are off by 20. Does that mean the engine is not original to the frame? I'd post'em up but until I get the title I'm a little nervous

And thanks PK, I thought is was just some kind of cover but thats cool its an adjuster, gotta love Honda! lol

But yea its a Nitto and its gonna get a good cleaning then Kenseed oil and hung on the shop wall

I would of loved to check out your Dads bike back in the day but I guess this is as close as its gonna get!

PK-wow very cool picture!

Brian- So your vin number is 7 digits? That would make it a 1965 or later, because that is when they went to 7 digit vins. Also, if im not mistaken, the ca78 is also a tale tell sign that it is a later year model. But this is what I know for sure;

1963 Engine numbers CA77E were between 310001 - 314731

1964 Engine numbers CA77E were between 100001 - 109850 (notice that they are all 6 digits)

1965 through 1967 Engine numbers CA77E were 1000001 - ? (7 digit vin numbers)

And about the numbers being off by about 20 numbers from frame to engine, I think that is normal, but don't quote me on that. Mine is a 1963 and the numbers are off by 7.

Its my version of a "pay it forward". I have had lots of help through my restoration of my Dream from others on this forum. Enjoy your new ride.
