The part you need too replace is the "Gear Shift Spindle", 24610-259-010.
I have them. (great used). ....................lm

When I was taking apart the left-side crankcase I realized the gear shift arm had been welded on to the spindle. I think I found a spindle gear shift through the Ebay seller mistermonkeyclaw, but was unable to track down the gearshift arm. I just wanted to make sure that I was tracking down the correct part, it is called a Arm Gearshift - part # 24711-268-030, right?

I have a question, how do you guys decide if you're going to open up the bottom end? Unfortunately I never drove this bike more than one block, so I can't say how the transmission is. The bike has 10,000 miles on it.

Right now I'm waiting for some parts to show up. I took the top end of the engine to a machinist and I am going to get the cylinders bored, I'll be ordering pistons this week.

If the engine is already out and the top end in apart is it worth it to open the crankcase? I read that there is some bushings that have a tendency to wear out.

On a new-to-me bike, if I have the engine out anyway, I like to open the bottom end and do a thorough inspection. If anything is worn or loose, that's the time to fix it rather than drop the engine again later.

I'm finally back to restoring the Superhawk, I moved over the holidays and it took me awhile to get reorganized.

I've got several new parts, a lot from Loud Mouse and they all look great! Thank you very much.

I split the case and I'm glad I did, the bushing that is known to wear down was in awful shape (see photo below). I also realized that there was no kickstart prawl, at all... I did get a new bushing and kickstart prawl, so I'm covered there.

I took some photos of the overall transmission, what else should I be looking for in terms of parts that often need replacing? I can take more photos and post them if something doesn't look right.

I took of the oil pump and my missing kickstart prawl showed up! It just fell out, any idea how this would happen? Have you seen this before?
