Not being an expert, but you might want to check to see if you have the right speedo drive unit on the wheel. On 'early' speedos, the speedo needle went one way, and on 'later' speedos the needle went the other way. Having the wrong drive unit will cause the needle to go in the 'wrong' direction.

it's the original speedo and drive, different cable. i'm going to check the drive unit to see if thats the problem.
