Years ago while removing my rt side cover I ignored the books' instruction to remove the alternator cover (doooooh) when I couldn't get it to budge(even with a BFH) I finally pulled the alt. cover and realized some instructions are meant to be followed. Try jiggling the kickstarter and lightly tapping around the circumference with a rubber mallet.
