Please make sure you have a one way valve in that breather hose. If not, when you brake hard with a full tank, the pipe will piss fuel all over the front of that nice clean motor. That is def. sub-optimal.

The one way fuel tank vent hoses are pretty good but nothing is 100% prefect. I'd almost suggest trying to put the end of the tube in small plastic bottle or if there isn't space for that, maybe take the hose all the way to the swingarm pivot area to discharge there, but make sure it doesn't sit infront of the rear tire or in a place it can get clogged.

An old race bike trick is to coil the vent tube and attach it to the screen, but that's not practical on a stock naked street bike.

Would there not be a valve like that integrated within the design of this cap? If not, where should I put this valve?

Maybe I need to examine the gas cap in person once it arrives. This cap is a part for a 1979 XL350s.

Vented cap

Vince, I've been riding dirt bikes for decades and the only appreciable amount of fuel that ever sloshed out of the vent tube was after a get-off, with the bike laying on its' side. You would really have to be riding crazy to get enough fuel to slosh all the way up the length of the hose to make a mess, let alone even be noticeable........................................D

I agree with DG, as I too have been riding dirt bikes for 40 years, and unless you drop the bike on the ground, nothing really comes out. A one way valve certainly won't hurt. Since you are using the CL77 damper, you should be able to remove the damper bolt in the center of the fork crown top nut, and run the hose down there. if anything comes out, it will go down the hole in the sterrer tube. Here's a pic of another option, a lot of us are using these on our dirt bikes these days. They're cheap, and any dealer should have them in asssorted anodized colors.

Well where do the vent tubes on a dirt bike normally end up? Is there anything at the end of those dirt bike vent tubes?

I'm really interested to see how this 'effect' will look on the bike. Plus, I was looking at the latest issue of Classic Bike magazine, and they had a few photos of some late '60s race bikes (Percy Tait, etc), and they had this type of gas cap (not that my bike's a race bike!), so I'll be curious to see if it looks ridiculous or if it looks super-cool!

The early ones ended up where I suggested that you run yours. Most of the new ones have a guide in the front number plate, and it goes behind it.
