Bit the bullet on a NOS battery. Any additive I should use?

No problem.

That's fine. From the underwhelming response, it looks like no one here advocates the use of additives.

Can't beat an AGM battery and tender combo. No acid spills and lasts for years. That's what I've been running for a while now.

Yep. Wish they made one that's a proper fit for the early models.

dream battery

I installed a new Dekka agm battery in my Goldwing 4 years ago. Went to charge it last fall before I removed it for the winter and found it was fully charged.

Took the battery out last week to charge it before I put it back in the wing and found it was still fully charged without a battery tender!

Yes, AGM's will on average only loose about 3% per month charge as opposed to a stadard lead acide battery that will loose 10% per month.

What is the size of the old style battery? I'd bet an AGM or LIFE battery could be found. I'm really looking at the Shorai LIFE battery for my XR650L. It's 1/2 the size roughly with more CCA than the standard AGM.

The size of the early Dream battery is 7 & 3/8 long, 2 & 9/16 wide 5 & 1/2 tall.

It's harder to find (agm) than Dream whitewall tires!

Ebay NOS battery arrived today

Post by Cheburashka » Tue Mar 29, 2011 9:18 am

I got the original style battery today. I almost hate to fill it and use it. It's like a work of art. The case is crystal clear and you can see this cool network of lead tubes inside of it. I want to mount it on the wall!

Turns out the first replacement battery I got from Ebay was a substitution. The seller figured there was no difference between a 12n93A and a 12n93A-1. Oops. The -1 has top terminals, while the other one has terminals which extend past the body of the battery.

In their defense, they did refund my original purchase price, let me keep the 3A-1, and send me a Yuasa 3A at no charge. I'm up to my eyeballs in batteries!!
