I've asked and asked this question to many people in the aluminium finishing world.  From what I gather it was a process called "clear anodizing"  and was done with a process of hydrofloric acid.  I only found one place that could replicate it, but holy hell it was expensive.  I've simply been powdercoating all the pieces to what my powdercoater calls "chrome" which gives a very nice finish, and about correct color.
