CB77: No second gear, only grinding!

Post by 3030vision » Mon Oct 02, 2006 10:50 am

Hi all,
I recently handed my bike over to a reputable mechanic in the interest of *finally* getting it on the road. Here's what I'm hearing from him:

"The good news is that I just rode it up and down the street. The bad news is that you have no 2nd gear! It goes in to gear but you just hear grinding teeth. This normally means a bent shift fork and/or damaged gear but I will read your service manuals today and see if it is an adjustment."

Can anyone help us out here? The original owner did not indicate any transmission issues, but who knows...

The electronic ignition is in, it's getting so close to being ready. Your help and/or thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like it's time to split the case and check it out.

Look at the part of shift linkage that is on the end of the Shift Shaft.
It HAS to be (top pointing) NEAR 11:00 not 12:00. .............lm
