Dream Handlebar Question

Post by Dogsbd » Tue Oct 17, 2006 1:04 pm

I am considering a set of pull back handlebars for my ‘66 CA77. The ones I have in mind are 25” wide, have a 7 1/2” rise and 13” pullback. They’re sold by JC Whitney and if you Google part number ZX027022N the first result will take you directly to them at the JC Whitney site. They’re only $33 and seem to be very similar to the “tiller” type bars that Apex sells for $94.

My question involves modifications required to mount these handlebars on my bike. Will I need lengthened clutch, brake and throttle cables? If so where would I find such longer cables? Are there any “universal” cables that I could use?

Thanks
Cecil

The biggest problem you might have is retaining the use of the original style internal throttle. The internal throttle uses a few parts that pull on the cable from inside the handlebar. You will also have to cut a few holes in them to run wires if you still want internal wiring.

This is what I have on mine.

Thanks Hahnda, the bars I am looking at are actually pre-cut for wiring.

I'll have to examine the throttle more closely to see if I can determine what might need to be changed.

If your not worried about nonoriginality that you can't see, you could just use a superhawk throttle. I think the cable end is a little different, but I think it will work. In my experience, this is actually quite an upgrade over the slide type throttle on Dreams, which seems to hang up a little no matter how well set up. That said, I was 19 or 20 years old the last time I tried to make a 305 Dream throttle return crisply.

Also into Alfa Romeo Giuliettas and Giulias! Looking for a Giulia Super.

Thanks prima5star, I'll give that idea a lot of consideration. Kinda depends on how much I find Superhawk throttles are going for ;)
