How do you test front shocks ?

Post by steve93101 » Wed Dec 20, 2006 12:06 am

On my '68 Dream, the front end will "bounce" a couple of times if I put my weight on them and release. On a car I know that the shocks should damper , like if you press on the trunk
it will go down kind of slow and release once, barely bounce. Is this normal ? I just got the thing, it runs great, last registered in 1988. I don't see any signs of oil leakage ( but I guess you have to take off the shock covers to really see any old stains) Could the shock oil have seeped out over the years / Seals bad ? What do you have to take off/apart to drain the shocks and replenish the oil . Any help/diagrams appreciated ....SS

The CA77/72 front shocks are sealed and unserviceable. Perhaps someone here has a source on a replacement or has actuall done a (machine shop) rebuild.(literally!)
