How do you get to the condenser ???

Post by steven0356 » Sun Feb 04, 2007 8:11 pm

I am trying to change the condenser on my 1965 CA77 305. It is located under the gas tank. I can't see how to get it loose without dropping the engine to get to it. I can't believe that is the way it works. There must be a easier way.

Thank you for your help.

Steve

It is a pain alright.I did mange to get at mine and take it off.Mine had phillips screws holding it on.I had borrowed a home made tool.It was a small drywall phillips bit welded on a small flat piece of metal and was able to get small turns on it.It took awhile to get off.To install I put screw head into a piece of rubber vacuum line and was able to turn hose as I guide screw in the hole.It did take alittle doing, but I did it and used the tool to tighten. What a pain.Joe

Do you want to drop it completely or just enough to put the cond. on?I'm not sure if you can loosen the engine enough to tilt it forward to replace the cond. I only ever pulled engines the whole way out. It's pretty straight forward to pull the engine.Just start taking things off.Headers, carb, fuel lines, horn, right side kickstart cover, footpegs, chain, stator wiring, etc. and mounting bolts and work it out.Be careful of damage to front fender and chrome shock support. Not sure what else to tell you.Maybe someone has dropped the engine alittle to do this and can chime in.

how is the condenser normally changed? Is there some other way of doing it besides loosing the engine just enough and tilt it forward, just a bit, so you can get to it?

I just got the bike and it looked like the points have been around for a while, I just thought that I would go through it as much as possible. Changing the condenser has always been easy, but apparently not on this bike

How can I check it?

Thanks Steve
