Honda Dream coming to lifeHonda Dream coming to lifeGreetings everyone!
I'm Marlon (Philippines) and I would like to share the restoration process of my Dream... I"m really new to bike riding and know almost nothing when it comes to fixing bikes...but I love them and this passion will continue for a very long time. Since I don't really have the tools and the time to restore this bike, this will be mostly a "job-out" project, with my usual supervision. We will restore this bike to the best of our abilities considering the scarcity of parts and information about the bike. And hopefully the finished product will look half as good as Paul's and Bill's Dreams. Well here goes: As of the moment, the bike is down to the frame and will be sent for metalwork due to a slight twist of the frame. All other parts will be cleaned and be ready for paint, chrome and polishing. The engine runs very well and will be cured of leaks and then be cleaned.
Hey Marlon your really moving along and got a really good start there with that Dream. As for the winkers. I've seen them on Ebay for the front handlebars from Thailand. They were on there just like the original ones on my dream with the only difference being the outer shell was plastic instead of aluminum. I also purchased all new winker lens from there to give mine a fresher look. Keep posting. Really interesting to see it especially the fact there's no snow where your are. We're still buried here! Good luck, Paul
Yup! We don't have snow here, just the summer season and rainy season. Thanks for the tip on where to get a set of winkers...maybe you could post a link? I'm sure once the snow melts there, you'll be off riding on your Dream. Well as of the moment, I've sent the items that are originally chromed to be rechromed, and maybe paint those originally polished items to have a slight custom look. Be posting pics soon. Marlon Well, my bike's progress is kinda slow at the moment due to some constraints. The frame will be needing some surgery and may take a few more days before its full recovery. Meanwhile, I'm trying to get as much work in as i can, in between my 8 hour job and availablity of resources. I'm personally cleaning up and painting the shock brackets, hubs, left and right handlebar controls and center bracket.
I'm painting the hubs silver just like Paul's ( Paul's looks really clean so i went that way too.Hope you don't mind Paul?) And maybe i might paint the rest bronze...what do you guys think? will it look good, or clash with the silver? Here's a pic of the finished front hub and new rim...being a novice and my first time at painting...I still found some areas not really smoothed out, but looks fine. Rest assured I'll be more detailed on the rest of the pieces. By the way, I used those canned spray paints...silver and clear.
Hey Marlon take your time. The longer you take the better the job. Center hub looks nice and no I don't mind. shairing ideas is what it's all about. As for the bronze. I use that color allot with other restorations I've done and added a few examples. I know it looks good with red, white and black but I'm not so sure about silver with bronze. I've never tried that.
Wonder what happened to your frame to be damaged?

Hey Paul. well i found out after stripping the paint off the frame, that the evidence points to a serious crash strong enough to warp the frame...and when it was repaired, it was such a lousy job that everything was out of line and plastered with lots of bondo. But fortunately, it can be fixed to its original specs again... Well, about the colors...maybe its not a good idea to mix bronze with silver/chrome parts...might look cheesy. I might just stick to chrome and silver...unless i make all silver parts bronze, and all chrome parts brass plated...hmmm...bling bling!
After really looking close at your pictures I could see some damage around the rear fender and motor mount holes but I wouldn't think that's serious. A friend of mine had some damage done on his bike's frame and it was pressed steel and I got it back perfectly for him. He was a little discouraged when he first seen it but after the repair he was all excited about the project again and I'm sure it will be the same way with you and your Dream. Just take your time and do it right. The frame is the foundation of the complete restoration.
I've only seen one Dream that wasn't painted the usual colors of Red, White, Black and Blue so what ever you decide to paint yours will be interesting to see. It's nice to add your own touch to the restoration. Makes the bike look more unique in my opinion. Good luck, Paul
