Why the left cylinder only?

Post by joeweir1 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 4:11 pm

Can some one explain to me why if my CA77 is running rich the left cylinder plug fouls and not the other?I thought I had an ignition problem, so after coil swap, new points, timing, new plugs, float level adjustment and new wire caps I put my 120 main back in and it improved performance and no fouling of plugs to this point. Now be a touch lean. Thanks

Joe, Sounds like a tough one! Have you checked compression on both sides? Have you checked the valve adjustment on both sides? Have you replaced the plugs? I'm just throwing out some stuff as a mabey, but this is the kinda thing that makes these ol' Hondas fun !! Steve Greer

Just changing the main jet helped.I do not have a compression gauge to check that.I may go over the valve adjustment again.thanks

Joe I ran into that kind of situation a couple of times. One time on a single cylinder bike the plug would foul up after 15 minutes of running. Turned out to be low compression and I had to deal with that. the compression was good enough for the engine to start easily but still fouled the plug.

On another occasion I had a similar situation and it turned out to be a condenser. I'm no expert but that's what I've ran into and I worked it out. Try the easiest thing first, a new condenser. Ride safe! Paul

Thanks Paul-I did put new points on, which did not help.As you know the condensors are a pain to take off. What I did do was put my original 120 main jet back in verses the 130 from the rebuild kit. This seemed to fix the problem. Was running too rich. Not sure why the left cylinder only fouled. It may be the compression is lowere on that side.Joe
