Remove front shocks on my CA77

Post by Buck » Wed May 16, 2007 8:37 pm

I've got my CA77 apart to do full restro but can't get the darn bolts out of the lower shock mounts. These are the phillips head countersunk ones with nuts on the inside. The nuts are off but the screws won't budge.I've tried krowl oil soaking and even applied heat to lower shock mount but nothing has worked. Anybody got a solution for getting these out? Buck

Soak them in your favorite penetrant of choice and then use an impact screwdriver. You can get one pretty cheap at Harbor Freight. A real handy tool to have when working on these old bikes.

Got them off today. Impact driver had no effect on them. Have soaked in Kroil oil for days. I ended up starting nuts back on ends and spot welding them to the bolts then using my air impact wrench to break them loose and cut off bolts behind the nuts. After breaking loose they screwed right out. Now I need new bolts but at least they are out. Buck

I had the same problem with some of those.Impact would not work nor heat or penetrateing oils.Your solution was good. Now to find those bolts.Allen heads would have been a better choice for those.
