Wide open throttle

Post by dizcod » Thu May 24, 2007 12:14 am

What would cause my CB77 to perform poorly at Wide open throttle. It idles good and midrange is good but when I open the throttle all the way, it bogs down. The advancer springs seem to be operable. Thanks, Dizcod

Incorrect jet size. Happen to know what size your running on the main jet? Open exhaust? Air filter? Have you done a high speed plug chop? Run at full throttle for a mile or so and then kill the ignition. Take out the plugs and have a look. They will probably be on the black side.

I also think some of it can be attributed to poor spark. I'm working through some of these same issues on a CA77. Not really in a hurry, as it really runs just fine, but I want it to run better.

My CA77 was doing that and the plugs were fouling out at full throttle.Dropped main jet back to 120 original from 130 Keyster kit main.Seems to have solved problem so far.Joe

Where can replacement main jets of different sizes be obtained?

At what speed do you open the throttle wide open?
Those are small pistons and need to be run smooth but not lugged down at all. ............lm

I believe the jets I am using are the standard issue Keyster 135 main and 42 pilot? Does that sound right. I live in MN so I don't have a problem with elevation and I am running Stock exaust and Brand new aftermarket filters. I notice it when in just about every gear but most prominent on the highway when trying to go 60-65 mph, I know it can go faster but it will not. Thanks for all the info guys. Thanks, Dizcod
