Ed moore's tuning recipe...

Post by carlluvscorinne » Fri Jul 06, 2007 1:18 pm

Hi all: I have a 1964 CB77 and my question is, After using ed moore's tuning recipe, am I not to be concerned with what the timing looks like with a timing light? It seems as though if you follow ed's instructions, I don't need to even use a timing light at all..Is this correct? Thanx in advance, Carl

I would like to stress an addendum to Ed's technique. Redo the procedure after about 60 miles or so. The cam riders on the points need to break in. I learned the hard way, after several hundred miles I started getting advanced a bit too far and predetonation at top speed caused me to burn a hole in my right piston!
I am now rebuilding the engine and will install the electronic ignition and never worry about it again!

If you have timing light, it would not hurt to check it. It takes little effort to use it. Furthermore, you can make sure that it is not going to far in advance at higher RPM’s which I hear is not a good thing. It sounds like piecutter found that out.
