New project bike. 1957 Honda Benly JC57.

Post by smithenhiven » Mon Oct 22, 2007 1:17 pm

I've finally acquired a bike that I've been wanting for years, a late 50's Honda Benly JC.

I just picked it up this weekend, drove about 12 hours from Pittsburgh PA, to Leeds AL, to meet up with the guy at the Barber Motorsports Complex (huge event went on there this past weekend), where I traded him my 1952 Honda Cub F bicycle engine for it (sad that's gone, but the JC is making up for the loss)

Sorry I'm not posting pictures of the bike yet, I'll be getting to that soon, but it's on the rough side cosmetically speaking, but the best part about it is that it runs.

Here's what I hope to have it looking like on of these days (from the Honda collection Hall):

OK, was finally able to snap some photos.

Here she is, in all her glory. Obviously she's been well used in her 50 years on this earth, but she's still running strong (although the non-original carb needs overhauled).

Probably this weekend I'll start the restoration, take her all apart, powercoat and re-chrome what I can, start the world-wide parts hunt. Let the fun begin.

And here's my inspiration:

Hopefully in the next couple of years I'll have mine looking that good.
