sprockets.

I plan on taking this thing on road trips, although there are certainly better bikes for this, I'm a smaller guy, and i think it'll manage fine.

what's a good sprocket size/ratio for me to think about for such things? I guess gas mileage is the number one concern with top end speed being the second concern (really, the less stress i can put on the engine at 80mph the better). having a lot of pick up off the line isn't a concern.

I recommend 15 = 32. Plenty of top end and easier on the clutch starts. ..................lm

yay!

moving right along.

a few questions. what are you guys doing about air filters? what battery are you folks using?
and i sheered the ... grounding bolt?... on what i believe to be my starter motor (take in mind i don't know much about motorcycles at all, this is my first bike, and i've done minimal work on any vehicle whatsoever, BUT my logic tells me its the starter motor).
It's a hollow bolt, and connected to all that jive wire coiling inside and now i've nothing to connect that ground to. should i just purchase a new one (think i found one on ebay) or is there a route around this with limited tools?

thanks guys!!![/img]

Use the search option on this site for air filter ideas, there are plenty of them. That is the positive wire from starter selenoid to starter motor that gos to the bolt you broke. It is fairly simple to disassemble starter motor, but it may be hard to find a replacement bolt, and it may need to be soldered in. I suggest replcing it. They are on ebay all day long, and you can use either CA or CB 72 or 77 starters. If you are talking about cruising at 80mph, go with a 15-30, or even 15-29.

I'll get a pic in of the part i busted.
and yeah, the soldering was the part that i was worried about, also the rubber washer and gasket thingy inside where the hollow bolt goes was rather brittle, so i found one on ebay and put a bid up. so far going for $10.50 plus more than that in shipping.
