I'm having no luck tracking down a chain cover that's <<<<<<<<under 100 bucks>>>>>>>>>. But old scrambler chain covers go for about 10 bucks and are plentiful.
Currently i'm more focused on the functionality over the aesthetics, and would not like chain grease flying all over the universe when i ride.

I'm assuming that you're
a) upset that I havent' referenced my part books b) upset that I'd even consider doing this?' c) upset that i think the point is to not flip grease all over the place and not other logical functions d) bothered that my chain is currently greased... lovingly. (haven't cleaned it and regreased it yet) e) practicing finger kungfu on your keyboard. f) bothered that I won't drop a few hundred for a piece of sheet metal that's been cut and bent. I understand that my own intelligence and experience isn't worth commenting in comparison to yours, and perhaps you feel that I should learn the old fashioned way and read all my books and use a bit more 'common' sense (esoteric would be a more accurate word). But in my limited experience I have found that people, not manuals or diagrams or butting your head against a problem over and over again... people are your greatest resource. We are are what we are as a result of our hive-esque mind. our ability to communicate and share knowledge. I humbly ask that instead of pulling the old "you don't deserve to ride this bike if you haven't put forth the effort I have" card that you drop pretty frequently (as my forum reading has led me to believe) you instead either shared some much needed knowledge, or pointed out the flaws in my statements that seem so obvious to you. I'd like to remind you that earlier in this thread I stated that I've never owned a motorcycle. I've driven a motorcycle maybe twice. I'm just a 25 year old oil painter who likes to read and figured a 305 to be the best possible bike i could get because when i looked at it, it made me want to take care of it. I don't know much, and I understand that my little plea here is a bit pre-emptive as you haven't dropped that 'card' on me yet... but I'd like to move forward. I hope that this forum doesn't feel like I'm behaving as if they are here to serve me, I know that when people ask me about painting, i'm eager to educate them in any way possible, especially if i can save them the hassel i went through being self taught and eventually clashing with my professors. I mean, it's about enjoyment, right? The more people i can get enjoying painting, the better the world is. -

Put in a good hour lunch sanding down the frame after a few go's at stripping the paint. My back porch looks more like a used parts lot than the scene of anything productive.
I'm afraid i'm going to have a glorious time trying to recall which pile of bolts when to what assembly. Watered the lawn a bit and watched robins come down and try to pick at worms while dodging the sweep of the slow moving arc of the sprinkler. Excited to be so close to the point where I reassemble the bike and pray everything is in working order. '65 CB77
'66 CB450k0 '93 HD FXR I didn't figure it would but i was kind of hoping that there would be some MacGyvering that one of the old timers had figured out, but i've never seen a scrambler in person, so I had no idea about the fittings, and a 400x600.jpg couldnt' show much. thanks for the info, dave. '66 CB450k0 '93 HD FXR My buddy Ryan picked up the tires I ordered from the Honda Dealership in Salt Lake City. He'll be coming down tonight to drop off the tires and drown his recent woman sorrows with whisky and a guitar on stage down on center street. If he won't sober up long enough to help me work on the bike, I'll have to sober him up with the business end of a forehand. Should get the bike painted this week and begin reassembly by the weekend if it doesn't take a turn south.
