Interesting tidbit about the seat. If this one tears or gets damaged, i'll be sure to take that into next covering.

and thanks on the additional info.

going to take the bike off the road for a bit. today a sound seemed to be originating from the kickstarter.
also, in 3rd and 4th gear, giving it full throttle gave absolutely no power.

going to take a look at the kick start and see about retuning it and checking the jets etc...

this is all rather over my ability level :p if it wasn't, it probably would have ran fine the first time i did it all haha.

I've reached a mental block on this timing tuning thing.
I'm reading everything written about it, but i dont have any previous knowledge on bikes, and some of the instructions/suggestions or parts listed just don't make a lick of sense to me, I'm going to give it another go in the next few days, but if i can't figure it out I'm either putting out an SOS on this forum or talking to every old man in town who has a bike parked in front of his house. so far i've only talked to about half of em.

well due to loudmouse being a saint, i got the timing done on it last night, took a bit of fiddle faddling after i got off the phone with him, but he sure was patient with me and gave me a wealth of knowledge in a short period of time.

i took it for a little spin after that.
after giving it throttle its very slow to come down from high rpms. LM says the carbs are out of sync. Going to look at that tonight, but i'll have to search the forum for some more info on how to do that. I just don't know how to adjust my float levels. I got the slides moving at the exact same time (boy were they off), and tuned the mixture per LM's recipe.

another problem on that short test drive was, what i believe, to be my cam chain being loose. terribly so. a day before i quit riding the bike i noticed a clangy sound, but last night it was a clapping like the whole darn chain was slapping the engine. as i slowed down it became quiter and less frequent, couldn't hear it at idle in nuetral with or without throttle.

I adjusted the tensioner, but didn't get any play out of it. sounds like i'm up to my neck on this one.

Gun / Loud Mouse - I had that same problem too with the the revs being very slow to come down, and it turned out that my mechanical advance was sticking. Any possibility that this could be also part of the mix?

If i was smart enough to know what my mechanical advance was, i could tell ya. for all i know it could be the part where the throttle cable splits to each carb, or a sexual dance move from the 80's.

also, a month or two ago i posted something on craigslist about my superhawks problems and wanting a local mechanic, and just today, bill silver replied to that craigslist ad. He told me "Make sure you adjusted the valves on the compression stroke and check the tensioner for binding of the adjustment rod shaft in the tensioner body."
DISCLAIMER: I don't know much about motorcycles.

That's only half makes sense to me. I think i can figure the valve bit out with a bit more reading, but the adjustment rod shaft binding in the tensioner body sounds like it could be trouble. I'm going to pop off that tensioner and hopefully figure something out without destroying something. anything i should know going into this>?

Having an issue with my kick start. It doesn't spring back after a kick on it's own. When driving makes a rapid light ticking noise in the case unless i manually bring it all the way back and keep it there.

also I acquired a box of cb77 goods from a guy. Free of cost, but not sure i understand/recognize much of it. at least, I don't know what the stuff with the wires are. that top left one has a metal frame attached to it :/ any info on those?
