Float level adjust

Post by cribbs74 » Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:56 pm

Looking for a definitive answer on float level adjustment...........

Seems every manual I have shows that you adjust float height by turning the carb upside down and measure from the base of the carb casting to the top of the float.Sounds simple enough, however there is a lip around the base of the carb that the bowl nestles into that is about 2-3 mm different in height from where the 2 cutouts are on the lip. Diagram does not show this. So I measured and adjusted the float height 26.5mm from the cutouts to the top of the float.

I had to bend the tab a good bit to achieve 26.5 mm. It is possible they were mal-adjusted by the PO, but since the rest of the bike was never serviced by the PO any other way I assumed this was the way they were set from the get go.

Anyway did I adjust/measure correctly? 1966 CL77 by the way.......................

Float adjustment

Ron,
I too set my floats at 26.5mm from the highest point of the carb body, not the inner shelf the bowl rests on. The diagram in my book shows the highest point of the carb base while inverted. I took that to mean the higher surface. ('65 CL77)

Interesting...........

Well then what are those cutouts for? can't see any other reason for them. Maybe LM could chime in?

Have you run the bike yet?

Float levels

Not yet Ron, Getting the bodywork painted in a week or so. Got the tank sealed last weekend. Built a truing stand for the rims (See attached photo).

Last of the chrome is at the platers now.

Probably looking at late Dec. or early 2008 for a finish date, if these bikes are EVER finished!!

How's yours coming along?

I'm getting there

Nice stand, hope it works well for you...... Here's a pic of where I am, things are going quicker thanks to LM. I am not doing the chrome yet as it isn't in the budget. All I really have left to get is a chainguard, but so is everyone else.
