local source for carb jets?

Post by Bob Dale » Mon Nov 19, 2007 8:58 pm

Is online ordering the only reliable source for replacement CA77 jets? This probably should have been my 1st remedy for a major rich fouling problem at idle but I tried everything else 1st. I had to get the kids to read the microscopic numbers on the jets and have determined that I have a 120 main and a 40 idle jet. I think the main is ok but I want to try stepping down a few sizes on the slow jet. Where can you get these things off the shelf in a town of 4+ million people? I would have thought these to be somewhat standard and still available for something. Motorcycle and auto shops dont carry them. Is online the only option?

Not being an expert, I'd suggest Nick at Ohio Cycle, or Terry at Western Hills Honda/Yamaha. Nick probably has all that you need, but he only accepts money orders, which is a bit of a hassle....BUT, he'd be the one who'd most likely have everything!

LM...I found the jet that was in the bike when I got it. I thought I had thrown it out but it was in my carb cleaner bucket. I also thought that it was the same size as the replacement jet but it isnt. Its a 35 and the replacement is a 40 so I will try putting it back in. I am not overly confident that it will be small enough and I still may need to try a 30 because I was running rich before I ever changed the jets the 1st time. Maybe after all of the other "improvements" that I have made it will work out with the 35 now.

In all the data I have I don't see a slow jet smaller than a #35. (even in the parts book)....................lm

Well then, I guess that provides some encouragement and confidence to get this one working. It must just need some air mixture screw adjustment. For that adjustment, which way should the screw be turned to reduce the fuel (more lean)? My assumption would be clockwise but I have been wrong before. I start at about 1 1/4 turns and work in from there if its still too rich?
