Help-Electronic Ignition-No Spark

Post by britman » Tue Jan 08, 2008 12:42 pm

I have a Probe Engineering Electronic Ignition System in my CL77 Project. It was in when the bike when purchased. It ran for a few minutes after I got it home after I got the carb leaks slowed to a small river. When it ran, it misfired and idled high. Now I have no spark at all. I have traced all of wiring thanks to thread on the EI system that is no longer available on this site. It is wired correctly, switch is working , power going to both coils, but no spark at all when kicked. I have Boyer systems in both of my old Triumphs and they have been bullet proof. I think the box has shorted, but that is just a guess. I have a parts bike that has the points, condenser, and wiring so unless someone can suggest another alternative, I guess I will convert it back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys.

Update

Post by britman » Fri Jan 11, 2008 5:37 pm

Just an update. I have sent the EI system back to Mark at Probe for a diagnostic check. Nice guy, responded immediately to my email with a number of suggestions as to what the problem could be. While the system is out I installed the old points system from the parts bike, and guess what, fire. I cranked her over and she ran at about half throttle and would not back down, so I guess the carbs need some attention. I have them soaking and will install kits in the am to see if that is the problem. Sounded pretty good even at high idle and I hoping to have a short ride before long to check transmission and clutch. There is no better feeling in the world than bringing one back from the dead.

EI System Update

Post by britman » Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:17 am

Mark is one nice guy. System is repaired and on its way back to Virginia. Not many around that still give that kind of customer satisfaction anymore.
