cb 72 classic racer project
thanksThanks for the reply; very good article on that web page liked the colour scheme. Ill look into the megacycle cam’s. I fitted Swarbrick header pipes to the first bike I built and norvil Megaphones. Which worked ok. That was ten years ago and im only getting back into building bikes now. Would like to know more on swapping the gears. Also did you weld the advance mechanism up to set the timing to full advance?. And are Webco an American company have you got there web address?
I got a some good P.M,s as well. Cliff, who raced the pop yoshimura kitted Hondas gave me some good information and was interested in the tank. The tank came with an engine I bought from England. I think it might be a Dunstall which was a complete fibreglass tank seat unit. I have seen these on a CB77 / 72 and on a Suzuki T20. The seat that was attached to it, can be seen in the photo above on the bike closest to the wall. I have posted another photo of the tank before I cut the bottom lip of I’ve got five of these bikes and some spares so im taking a mould of the tank and hope to make a couple more for the other bikes. It would be great if anyone could post any photos of them racing a CB77 / 72 or the yoshimura. Thanks again all the best. Regards PT. Your bike is looking good. Yes, the cam advance mechanism was welded up. The 2 & 3 trans gears can be interchanged to give a closer ratio when shifting. Bill Silver's 305 restoration books and/or CD give a fair amount of information on performance enhancements. I recall he had a list of all the originally available CYB parts for the 305. You can email Bill at <william.silver@gmail.com>. I don't believe Webco exists any longer. There are other companies supplying 350 rings & pistons currently, but I haven't kept up with the situation. Megacycle cams might be able to direct you when you call about cams and valve springs. Bret at Glass From the Past (http://caferacingparts.com/) has nice fiberglass tanks and seats for the CB77. If you can make it to an AHRMA vintage roadrace, there are usually a number of folks with heavily modified 305s. --Randall
See page two of the transmission section for info on xing the gears. It is a really nice upgrade, and easy to do if your in the lower end already. Also, there is a set of 3mm oversize pistons on ebay right now, buy it now for $80. I don't know if he ships international or not. Here's the link for pistons.

Probably not what you're looking for but, I thought I'd throw it out there for your info. I have it from a very good source ( a fellow over on SOHC4), that the complete trans from a 68' CB/CL350, will drop right in the CB77 case (shift drum, shift forks and clutch included) and give the bike a 5sp trans. The bikes gearing will have to be raised some because the 350 trans has an overall lower gearing. I'm in the process of getting the necessary parts together to build a Super Hawk with this setup. Now, I have no idea just what sprockets I'm going to have to run to get the gear ratio that will be best suited for me. That part will be trial and error. Just thought I'd mention that. Might be of interest to you, might not. After 68' Honda made some improvements the keeps the later model trans from being a drop in for the CB77 case. My source was involved in motorcycle racing back in the 60's or so. Good Luck with your quest and, like others, I'd like to see and hear about your progress. I'm not building a racer, I'm just wanting to build a Super Hawk with some uniqueness to it.
Later on, Bill Bill- I have heard this urban legend but have never talked to someone who has FHE with doing so. A problem is gonna be finding a '68 trans. You will prolly have a better chance of finding a KIT 5 speed cluster or a NOVA which will set ya back an easy $2k.
Magoo-Here are some picts of my '66 race bike. Disregard some of the shotty bits like numberplates/brackets,tach. holder, damper and shifter as they have been replaced since these picts were taken. I'm runnin Swarbrick megs rolled to CYB specs with a stock head pipe. They make no power till about 5500rpm and then the bike comes alive till abut 8500rpm. I fab'd a set of caps that can be riveted onto the meg so I can add Supertrap tuning discs for some tunability below 5500rpm and drop DB's. The engine that is in it in this picture is a stocker from my street bike with some minor tweaks just so I could get the chassis setup. I'm workin on puttin a 350cc magneto fired engine together with new parts that are bein made by a fella in Washington state. ![]() ![]() georGe

thanks for the replysRandall the megacycle cams do look the right just the job to make the top end breathe. Not to expensive either.
Dave what are the Hap Jones piston like any good I have heard different reports on them. What compression ratio would they give you? I think ill also have a look at getting the bill silvers guides. A 68 box might be hard to find but I suppose it would worth it. You guys are in the right place to find one. Honda must have sold a big percentage of the 68 production line in the USA. I on the other hand have to get most my bike parts of e-bay. Ireland would have had a very small market for bike sales in 68.Im green with envy. You can even afford to go racing with an original front fender. I have been trying to buy on of these for a while now as I am restoring a road going cb72 as well. Can not get one for under $200 on e-bay. Is that an oil try under your engine. The bike looks good in the production trim. Keep the photos coming there is always something different, Id love to see what you’re doing as well Bill. All the best.
