Yes I know how down right ugly the bike is, Caveman on the tank included, but I took it out for about a fifteen mile ride test drive today. Did a compression check (135/136 on cylinders with a cheap JC Whitney tester), and final tweaking on carbs and ignition before leaving the abode. With my cell phone in my jacket to call the wife to bring the trailer if needed and a borrowed antique tag from a Bonneville off I went. It runs pretty darn good. Smoking died down, but I know with the compression check numbers I will need rings sooner than later. I had forgotten how low these bikes are geared and I think my speedometer may not be accurate (somewhere in the 20 to 30 mph error range.) I have to fix the horn button today, that is the only thing not working on the machine, so I am pleased. It is a blast to ride and I may keep in this form as I start to tear down the parts bike. This motor is going into the parts bike frame to produce a semi matching numbers machine and to to a good phased rebuild starting from frame up. It will also give me an opportunity to ride the old "Caveman" to the first warm bike night to see what kind of reactions it will get.
