Re: Help-Tell me What year I have
I'd say both are 1966 and the parts bike has a CL72 rear fender.
The numbers as you (quote) need to be looked at and compared as to the style of the stamps used compared to the other bike you have which I would suspect will have the correct stamp profiles. ....................lm

You can also take off the gas tank and there will be a tag on the wiring harness denoting year usually. JMHO

what year
the problem with pinning down the year going by the serial #'s is that from the beginning of 1965 till end of production in late 67 the #'s ran consecutively with out a change in sequence at year end as in the 62 thru 64 models. It is said that all 305's in 65 came with the steel rear fenders but I personally owned a very early 65 when I was in high school that came from the factory with the small brakes, an alloy rear and a 8 hole steel front fender. The 65 250's kept the alloy fenders front and back until they changed to the type 2 alloy front end and big brakes mid year. It's safe to say that any cl77 that came from the factory with the type 2 alloy front end would generally be considered a 66 but as there were at approximately 67k made and the Type 2 front end showing up at Frame # 14496 u could conjecture that approximately 22k were made each year which would still leave your bikes being manufactured in the first part of 66. U make the call!!! also check the wiring harness under the tank as u have been told...I have the correct rear fender 4 u if u have something interesting to trade 4 it. u can pop me at mocallaghan@mctdevcon.com
