Great looking bike and thanks for the tank tip! Where/how do I get to the oil filter?deaddog wrote:Did you take the centrifugal oil filter apart and clean it? I do that at every oil change, and recommend the same for you. I have always found crud in it. Oil and filter should be changed every 1000 miles or less.invizibletouch wrote:Changed the oil last night and kicked it a couple times.
I ride a 1961 superhawk that is barnyard fresh. I went the same path you are doing which is to get it mechanically sound. I have logged over 5000 miles since getting on the road and she has been a very reliable Daily Driver.

Thank you! But really the bike is pretty rough looking (runs great though) pictures can hide defects.invizibletouch wrote:Great looking bike and thanks for the tank tip! Where/how do I get to the oil filter?
The Filter is in the left side of engine. For my make/model/year I have to remove the left case. I am not sure on a Dream and your year bike if you can remove the filter without removing the case. There is a round cover on the left case (three screws mounting it) that you might be able to remove and get the filter out through there. I know that my year bike the filter will not come out through the hole. Check other threads on this site that talk extensively about the centrifugal filter. There are things you will need to know about, like the thrust washer and the location. Hopefully someone will chime in if they have changed the filter without removing the cover, but really it is no big deal removing the left case cover.

Thanks I'll give it a look tonight. Hey man, I like em' rough! I'm trying to talk an old farmer out of a 71' F-100 Custom that's got a great "36 years of mother nature" flat red finish that matches my bike! He has it listed on CL with the only text "Good ol' truck." I emailed him "how much". He replied "How Much Will You Give?". LOLdeaddog wrote:Thank you!
