coil/condenser check CL77

Post by ggray » Wed Feb 20, 2008 11:38 pm

Could someone please tell me the proper check to insure a properly working coil/condenser combination pior to starting the bike?

With key in the run/start position, should I be getting 12v at the coil(s) positive terminals?

Thanks,

Coil Check

Post by ggray » Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:36 am

Yeah, had to make a copper end to the main harness and solder a brass nut to it to attach to the battery.

Now that I have good 12v at the "+" side of the coils, is there a good way to check the coils before attempting to start the bike? (No gas in tank yet)

I'd like to make sure the coils are functioning properly before mounting the tank.

Thanks,

Put plug into the cap and lay it on engine so you can see the electrodes.
With points closed and ignition on open the points with your finger and you should see the plug spark. ................lm

Gary,

You could ohm them out, should be about 5ohms I think. both of mine were within .1 ohms of each other. I assume mine are good. I will find out soon enough though.
