checking oil.

Post by ca95dream » Sat Mar 15, 2008 1:07 pm

two questions.

one: when should we check the oil on the ca77 305s? when the bike is cold, or after it has been warmed up?

two: i am leaking oil from the right side of the bike. it drips onto the chain and then it spits out everywhere from the chain. i am guessing it is a gasket or a seal in that area. whch one is usually the most common culprit?

I like to check the oil after it has been warmed up, and sat for a minute. Unscrew the dipstick, wipe it off, and stick in cases without threading it in. There are 4 oil seals around the chain area, 6 total on the right side. I usually take the cover off, thouroghly clean oil off, and run the bike with the cover off to see which seal is leaking. Any of the can be replced without splitting cases. Be sure to remove any sharp edges around seal area before installing a new seal. I always coat the outside of the seal with hondabond 4 before installing.
