I rebuilt my carbs using Keyster kits.

Has anyone ran into float bowl gasket problems of being too thin to allow adequate pressure to be applied when the bowl bail in in place?

I set my floats to the dimension the kit called for and I'm getting some seepage from around the bowl gasket.

Any thoughts?

I used the keyster gasket and have not any trouble to speak of.Did you use any type of adhesive to hold it in place and are you sure it did not move?Is the bail bent?

Pulled the bowls off tonight and ran a file over the sealing edge of both bowls .

I DID find some low spots (In the long straight areas) I filed the high spots off until all surfaces were level.

I also pulled the gaskets and used some gasket adhesive to adhere the gaskets to the bowls.(Turned the bowls upside down on a flat ground plate and let gravity hold the bowl/gasket assy in place until the adhesive dries)

Hopefully this will help the situation.

It appears that filing the tops of the bowls flat and applying some gasket sealant to the bowl and then installing the gaskets did the job.

Three days and no seepage of gas around the bowl gaskets.

I have just done something similar with my CB72 carbs, after disturbing them 1 carb leaked badly.
Swapped gaskets ( have 5-6 NOS ones ) but no good so then used silicon gasket sealant on both carbs.
The one that hadn't leaked was fine, the other didn't leak but did give a heap of trouble yesterday. kept stopping and when I pulled the float bowl there would be bits of silicon floating about - eventaully pulled the gasket and cleaned it off and OK.
Morale of the story is that the silicon isn't petrol proof and that it must have been Sod's Law that it started leaking in the first place and that the other carb seems fine !
The day was topped off by picking up a nail in the rear tyre and tearing the inner tube .. in the snow.

A question my mate asked .. is the fuel level supposed to be upto the gasket at the front of the inclined carbs ? Anyone know for sure ?

A lesson I have learned over the past two days Phil.

Also a good question as that is where the majority of my seepage came from....Front incline.
