Warm and cool exhaust!

Post by ROBM50 » Wed May 07, 2008 5:32 pm

Hey guys! Sort of out of the blue my ca77 305 dream seems to have lost significant power when I attempt acceleration. While idling, I put my hand behind both exhaust pipes and the right side exhaust seems warm while the left feels cooler. Anyone know what the problem might be? Rob

ROBM50, It sounds like the fire went out in the left side. The best place to start would be pulling the left spark plug. If its wet Then its probably not firing or its fuel fouled from too much gas in that cylinder. If its black and oily then its oil fouled, bad rings or worse(try not to think about that). I would go thru the ignition system, check points gap, check my coil and condenser, etc. Or in case of too much fuel check the carb adjustments first, if they look OK then pull the carb for a tear down and clean-up. Good luck Rob and let us know what you find, Kustommusic

Kustommusic, thanks for your very informative reply! After reading your rersponse I strongly suspect excessive fuel since I've recently noticed the over flow nipple on carb seaping gas regularly when engine is not running. I'll start with pulling the left plug to investigate. Thanks again! Rob

Problem solved!

Hey Kustom! I took your advice and pulled the plug. Only noticed just dark carbon build up but no wetness. Brushed plug up with an old tooth brush, reinstalled it and bike fired right up with restored power. Once again, thanks! Rob

ROB, Good to hear its running again. Have you done anything about the left carb? Kustommusic

Kustommusic, The ca77's only have the single carb and that's going to be addressed in a couple of days by my mechanic. I've got a leaky petcock issue that's also going to be addressed at that time. Can't wait either because there has been some beautiful riding weather in the last few days here in the Dallas Tx area. Rob
