2 tank questions
2 tank questionsHi, I'm focusing on my tank right now, which externally is in great condition. The inside had a little rust, and the previous owner kreemed it and didn't do a great job. I talked to him today and he said it was for aesthetic reasons, and that the tank didn't have any leaks or anything. Unfortunately, the kreem liner is coming off in sheets and I'm afraid to pull it out, thinking I'll never get it all out. I've read that you can dissolve it with acetone, but I'm afraid one drop would ruin the paint job on the outside.
So question #1 is, if the kreem liner isn't interfering with the flow of gas, can I just keep the tank full and leave it flapping around in there indefinitely? #2 is easier, and I swear I searched all over and can't find the answer: Is there a trick to disconnecting the reserve hose between the tank halves without spilling gas everywhere? I use a clamp so it's down to just clamping one side of the hose, pulling the other side, and sticking my finger over the nozzle... I just have this horrible suspicion that there's a trick to doing this without spilling gas all over my bike... THANKS! -phil Fuel disconnectPhil,
I've been looking at getting one of these. Might be a solution to your problem too. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/too ... couplings/ Gary '65 CL77 Owner
Re: Fuel disconnectA little on the expensive side for my tastes, HOWEVER, it gave me the mental nudge I needed -- I'll just put TWO clamps on almost touching each other in the center and then slice the line between the clamps. $.85 cents worth of gas line to replace it... THANKS!
Well, the 2-clamp system worked great -- barely spilled any gas.
As for the Kreem liner, it came out in two pieces. What a joke of a product! In the process of rebuilding the petcock, I broke the little post that the X-shaped clip goes on and ta\hat the lever pivots on. I'm thinking I'll drill out the broken post from the clip and make a new post. Bummer... Re: Fuel disconnectThat has got my interest. Please let me know how it works out if you do get it. With the price of fuel it should pay for itself in about ten years. but it should keep the gas off the engine when removing tank.
