White cb77White cb77Back in 71', after a great deal of negotiation, I was able to get Pop to finally agree to stop listening to Mom and let me get my first "legal" motorcycle. I had my eye on my future ex-brother in laws cherry 1964 175cc Harley Scat. Pop, in his infinite wisdom, knew a deal when he saw one and took me to the local barber's house where I was presented to the greatest companion a 16 year old kid with fresh mule crap between his toes could ever imagine, a pristeen 1968 (titled) "White" 305 Superhawk. We plopped down somewhere between 300 to 375 cotton picking, hay hauling, cornshucking, pig cutting dollars and I rode away into the dark, changed for life.
I must have put a million miles on that bike over the next 4 years. But as things go, I got married while in college, got the bike out for a ride 1 day, broke the clutch cable and dropped 3rd gear. I eventually took the bike apart and at that time could not locate, from an economical standpoint, sufficent resources to complete the repairs. We moved a couple of times and during one of the moves the superhawk just didn't make it on the truck. Lost forever. So here I am at 53 trying to put together what I consider to be beyond cool, a White late model 305 Superhawk. I'm no novice at bike restoration or or specifically 305's. I currently have in the stable around 20 bikes with Harley Hummers, Triumph Cubs, Elsinores, and around 10 305's restored and unrestored. I have 1 question about the true late model White Superhawk. What type fork did it have? Were they aluminum and painted or were they steel? I simply can not tell from my old pictures. I don't think that I have ever seen another that was issued with the lip seat. I'm sure it was minted in either late 66 or 67. Thanks in advance for the help and please post any comment you can about the white bikes. Mark My 1966 CB77 had at some point in its history been poorly painted with red on the tins, and black on the frame. When I took it apart for refinishing, and after a close look at all of my parts, I was SO surprised to see white paint underneath everything -- white paint was on the frame, fenders, sidecovers, chainguard, headlight bucket, fork tins and on the alloy fork sliders.
While I probably should have refinished the bike in white, it's now a black Super Hawk with the silver painted sidecovers, fenders and fork lowers. Don't know if that answers your question. Someone with more knowledge would probably be able to tell you about the forks -- just thought I'd let you know what I found on my bike, which was at one time an all-white CB77.
When you cleaned the paint from the bike which parts were actually black when the bike was issued?.
I know what parts were white and the parts which were not!!!!!!!!!!............lm

I didn't discover any black parts. None of the parts, when I cleaned away the overpaint, were black. When I say there was white paint on everything, it was on all the parts of the bike that were with the machine, and the bike had been poorly painted over without any substrate preparation. The tail light wasn't with the bike, and neither was the center stand, toolbox or lift handle, so I can't tell you what color those items would have been. I went with black for the bike, as I think the Super Hawks look good in black, chrome and silver.
The fork sliders will be white. The center stand will be black as will be the rear fuel tank bracket. ...........lm
