Engine reassembly Valve Job?

Post by lhz55 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 7:49 am

New rings and oil seals should arrive today from Ohio Cycle. I have not done any work on the Valves. After pulling the cams I have not come up with a method of compressing the valve springs to release them. Is there a suggestion that I can do in my garage workshop? Do I have to take them to a cycle shop? Or if they look OK, will I lose much compression to leave them alone?
Thanks, Lee

You need a c-clamp style valve spring compressor. Find them at most places that sell stuff for small engines. Maybe a NAPA or farm store?

Hahnda's method is what I used, but the small engine clamp I had did not leave enough room so I cut a piece of 3/4 copper pipe as and extension and notched part of it out to access the keepers.I posted a picture.Joe
