1964 CP77 speedo conversion

Post by Fastwater » Tue Jul 01, 2008 8:05 pm

I have a 1964 Superhawk with a type 1 (apposing sweep) speedo needing to be replaced. Ebay produced beautiful type 2 (same way sweep) for me. Has anyone made the conversion? What will I need?

Thanks!

to my limited understanding, they just mount slightly differently.
the previous owner of mine put a type 1 on the bike that should have had a type 2. i had to drill little holes on the side of the type 1 to get the screws on the side to take to it properly.

Thanks for the speedy reply Gun. In my haste to post, I may have left out an important item I discovered. I feel like the rotation is opposite between the two types. I can only get the Type 2 to register a speed when I push the bike backward down my street. Which has amused my neighbors a little too much. It looks to me to follow the rotation of the needle. CW for type 1 and CCW for type 2.

Any help is really appreciated.

By attaching it to the wheel, spinning the wheel, and observing which way it turns.
