New front shocks?

Post by bj » Wed Jul 16, 2008 5:53 pm

Has anyone had success with improving the front suspension?

Anyone put new (not used) front cushion assemblies in. Did it help? Or............

Was the front suspension just horrible from the get go?

Thanks,

Bryan

Well,

I ended up forking out some $$$$$$ for NOS front cushions. So, I guess I'll be able to give you guys a report once the project is done.

I know the front suspension was pretty bad even when these bikes were new, but hopefully this will make my ride better. The old ones had 30 odd years and 23k miles on em.

Well,

I finally got to test these out.
The "New" 40 something year old shocks are not that bad. I had my doubts when I got them. They looked just about as bad as the ones I pulled off the bike. You could definately tell that they were not manufactured last year. I guess that is why it's call new old stock.

They ride WAY better then my old ones. I am almost dragging my knees through the twisties, uh, er, yeah, that's my story and I am sticking to it. But honestly, the rears used to be the better end of the suspension, now it's the other way around. They were pricey, but I am happy with the purchase.

Has anyone tried opening up the old ones and putting a different weight oil in them?

I did this to my C92 and it made a world of difference. I am thinking of doing the same to the dream but am unsure of the weight to use.
The C92 I used a straight 10 weight as it is a light bike.
