Petcock Problem

Post by britman » Fri Jul 18, 2008 7:38 pm

I have rebuilt the petcock on my 66 CL tank and there are no leaks. The big problem is I can only get one to tube to feed gas. I have pulled the darn thing twice, blown air through the tubes until the compressor got hot and still only one side feeds. IT IS NOT CLOGGED-I PROMISE!!!!! This is the type with the cross over tube. It is assembled correctly with all new parts. The valve is working for gas shut off both on and off the tank. What is causing my air lock-ideas anyone????????

Post by britman » Fri Jul 18, 2008 8:54 pm

Never mind. I got it. My wife might be right. It may be time to go to the "Home". I hope I get a first floor room, they are the first ones to get the puddin cups.

Gary,

I turned the filter screen over, (tab up) and the flow was fine. Apparently this makes a difference. It's working, I rode the bike several times this afternoon with no problems.

wha? I'm having similar problems here. your telling me the tab,,,,,the little grab on the screen has to be going up?

I would be going down the road and conk out. when I pull over I notice the inline fuel filters are dry so I unscrew the bottom petcock reservoir. Fuel would then rush in to fill the line. I'd screw it back on then ride. same thing. then suddenly the fuel lines would be full but I'd still conk out. I know its something to do with the lines.

Kustom said maybe the vacuum effect was happening so I opened the cap a bit. runs fine but it will conk out I'm sure and leave me someplace again.

this flip over of the screen matters? that would be very cool but very disturbing

Thumbs.

I don't know if that is the correct position for the screen or not, I can only say it worked for me. I was hoping one the true experts would chime in. I conducted a very scientific test to diagnose my problem. I had an extra tank and filled it full of water. Every time I put the bowl back on with the screen tab down I lost flow to one side. With the tab up it was fine. I rode the bike to work today and back home, about 12 miles and no problems.
