leaky fuel cap '65 CL77

Post by ggray » Sat Jul 19, 2008 11:02 am

I bought a new gas cap from Tim McDowell and it looks great. His has the rubber sealing washer. I think there was a thread some time ago discussing the height of his (Or similar) caps in comparison to the OEM gas caps as they sit on the tank.

Problem is, it appears the cap is leaking gas through the vent hole and it comes out under the cap and onto my tank.
Anyone else having this problem with their gas caps?

I'm fairly sure the seal washer is sealing and the gas is coming out the breather holes.

Input? Cures?

Thanks,

Gary

Gary, my experience is that unfortunately this is normal. The caps mst vent so the fuel can flow. The problem is at it's worst when the tank is full. The only thing that I can think of to cure it would be to get a later model enduro/mx cap, such as XR100, that has a vent tube in the center of the cap to attach a rubber hose to and route away from tank.
